Lincoln Center Institute
LCI's work on imagination, aesthetic education, and the arts (inspired and led by the work of Maxine Greene) has become an influential part of my teaching. See their book, Imagination First for a description of their practices and my own contribution to it as an "Imagination Practices" winner.

The Foxfire Program
The Foxfire Core Practices have also been influential in my own work. The program was originated by Eliot Wigginton nearly 50 years ago to help bring relevance and meaning to the education of young people in the Appalachian region of north Georgia.

Construction of Male Identity in Two Elementary Teachers: Trio-ethnography
This is the first official trio-ethnography, a variation on the duoethnography techniques developed by Joe Norris and Rick Sawyer. In this this project, I joined with Raine Hackler, a male elementary teacher, to discuss how early gender construction experiences might have played a role in our eventual effectiveness as elementary teachers and our ability to navigate a predominantly female profession. We were later joined by Rebecca Bradley, a female elementary teacher who provided a critical perspective on our assumptions about men who enter teaching.
This project is especially interesting for me since we have not written the results in a traditional way but have opted for a non-linear, hypertext format that allows the reader to enter in and out of the conversation at various points and for us toe include extra-conversational reflections and research excursuses. Much of this work can now be found in a chapter of Duoethnography: Dialogic Methods for Social, Health, and Education Research.

PDS Literature Review
Research on PDS research has been the focus of my scholarship over the past seven years. The conference papers and articles included in this section all grew out of a review of 250 PDS-related papers and publications written between 1990-2006. The review, begun by my wife, Donna Adair Breault, and I in 2002 has expanded and analyzed the sources from a variety of perspectives over the years. That work has culminated in a
a book titled, Professional Development Schools: Researching Lessons from the Field. The book is available from Rowman & Littlefield.

Melange
Here you will find a collection of papers and articles that fit into what I call the serendipitous or opportunistic parts of my research agenda (see the Perspectives and Projects link). They are not necessarily part of any larger project but represent a complement to my larger projects. Some are related to self-study of my teaching, others integrate "fun" areas of study like theology and the arts. Still others were produced by invitation of a colleague, as part of a grant, and so on.
